We resolve the two hostnames the park publishes — bookingbromo.bromotenggersemeru.org and booking.bromotenggersemeru.org — against three independent public resolvers, by hand, and record exactly what comes back.
All six lookups return NXDOMAIN. That is the resolver saying the name does not exist at all — not that the server is slow, overloaded, or blocking us.
The second of those two addresses is the one the national park’s own homepage links to today. So the booking system has either moved without an announcement or is down, and every Bromo guide still quoting the old address is sending people nowhere.
We re-check this each time we touch the page.
seats a day, whole park
Taken from the national park’s own published visitor rules, not from a tour operator. Online registration is mandatory and cash sales at the gate were removed entirely.
2,752 is the ceiling for the whole park across all four entrance gates, not a figure per gate. Cemoro Lawang and Wonokitri draw from the same pool as Tumpang and Senduro.
Quota is released in batches, roughly every two weeks on a Tuesday or Wednesday, rather than continuously. An empty calendar for your date very often means the batch covering it has not opened yet — not that it sold out.
Weekends, long weekends and the July to August peak do genuinely go weeks in advance. Payment is by virtual account and the window expires two hours after you register, so have your banking app open before you start.
Loading seven mornings at the caldera rim…
Cloud layers, temperature, wind and the sunrise time come from Open-Meteo, hourly, for the caldera rim at 2,770 m. Subuh comes from Aladhan using the Kementerian Agama RI calculation. Both are fetched fresh every time this page loads — nothing here is cached or hand-typed.
The score is 100 − (0.6 × high cloud + 0.4 × mid cloud), averaged over the hour before sunrise and the sunrise hour itself. A precipitation chance above 40 per cent or visibility under 5 km pulls it down further.
Low cloud is drawn but deliberately never scored. Sitting below you it becomes the sea of clouds everyone comes for; sitting at your level it is fog and you see nothing. No global forecast model separates those two cases, so we show the number and let you judge.
Mornings one to three are worth planning around. Four to seven are marked indicative — tropical mountain forecasts degrade quickly past seventy-two hours.
Subuh is pulled live from Aladhan for the Bromo coordinates, using the Kementerian Agama RI calculation, for tomorrow morning. The jeep departure windows are the operators’ standard times, collected by hand — not a live feed.
The amber arc is the whole sunrise run: roughly 01:00 if you leave from the Malang side, 03:00 to 03:30 from Cemoro Lawang, through to the sun clearing the horizon just after five.
The white dot is Subuh. It lands inside that arc every day of the year, which is the whole point — the prayer has to be planned before you get in the jeep, not improvised in the dark at the viewpoint.
The red section marks the stretch where you are already at altitude, in the cold, with no prayer room within reach.
Compiled by hand from TNBTS announcements and national press, and re-checked every time we touch this page. There is no feed to subscribe to — the park publishes closures as news posts, which is exactly why most Bromo guides carry stale dates.
Amber is the scheduled closure for Yadnya Kasada, the Tengger offering ceremony at the crater. All tourism stopped from 00:00 on 30 May until 23:59 on 2 June 2026, and the park reopened on 3 June at 01:00. Kasada follows the Tengger lunar calendar, so the dates move and 2027 has not been published.
Red is the 2026 wildfire closure. Fire started in the caldera on 10 September, every gate shut on 12 September with no end date, and the park reopened at 00:01 on 19 September. Tickets dated 19–30 September stayed valid on the printed date and could be neither rescheduled nor refunded.
The bands are drawn to scale against the full year, so both look small — and they are. The thing that hurts a trip is not the length of the closure, it is that the notice was two days.
