Loading seven days of swell off the South Malang coast…
Significant wave height, wave period and swell come from the Open-Meteo marine model for a point off Balekambang, fetched fresh on every page load. The dashed line in each column is 1.6 m — about the height of a standing adult here — so you can see the water against yourself rather than against a number.
Height alone does not decide how dangerous a day is. Period does. A 1.5 m swell arriving every 16 seconds has crossed the open ocean and carries far more energy than a 1.5 m wind chop arriving every 7 seconds, and it is the long-period days that produce the rip currents people drown in. So a day with a long period is graded worse than its height alone would suggest.
None of this makes any day a swimming day. There is no lifeguard on this coast outside the busiest spots, and the honest rule at every beach here is knee-deep at most. The board tells you whether it is a walking-and-photographs day or a tide-pool day, not whether you can swim.
For the official warning, BMKG publishes a maritime forecast for the southern Java waters. When it flags high waves, believe it over anything on this page.
Loading the next 48 hours…
Sea level against mean sea level, hourly, from the same Open-Meteo marine model, for the next 48 hours. The highs and lows are picked out of that curve rather than typed in by hand.
Low water is what you are planning around. The reef flats and tide pools at Goa Cina and Kondang Merak are only walkable near the bottom of the tide, and the sand at Balekambang is widest then too. Arriving on a falling tide gives you the whole window rather than the end of it.
It also matters for getting back. A rising tide cuts off the rocky sections between coves faster than people expect, and this is a coast where that turns into a rescue rather than an inconvenience.
The model gives astronomical tide against mean sea level. Storm surge and the swell running on top of it are separate, which is why the swell board sits above this one.
Build the day around this one. It cannot be added on the morning of.
Balekambang is the well-known one. Goa Cina and Kondang Merak are quieter and better for space over facilities.
Tiga Warna sits inside the Clungup Mangrove Conservation area rather than a tourism zone, so its rules are set by the conservation group that runs it, not by a tourism office. They are published as social posts and announcements, and they change.
We deliberately do not print a headline number for the daily cap. Published figures disagree — some sources say one hundred visitors a day, others two hundred — and quoting either as fact would be inventing precision we do not have. What is consistent across every source is that the cap is small, that it fills, and that there is no walk-in.
Reservations are handled over WhatsApp by CMC Tiga Warna during office hours, roughly 08:00 to 16:00 WIB, and commonly need about a week’s notice. Confirm the current fee when you book: entry, guide and the conservation deposit are separate items and the total moves.
If you are staying with us, message us instead and we will check whether your week is bookable before you commit to the drive.
